HITEX CYCLEWAY

Coloured Thermoplastic Surfacing Material

Quality management systems to ISO 9001:2008

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Hitex Cycleway consists of a pigmented thermoplastic polymer modified rosin ester binder with 100% granite aggregate.

Cycleway is manually applied hot using a screed shoe at temperatures between 180°c - 210°c. The finished surface is 3mm to 5mm thick.

TYPICAL APPLICATION

Hitex Cycleway is used as an alternative to ColourTex where coloured surfacing is required in less highly stressed areas such as cycle ways and hatched areas. It is suitable for use on black-top surfaces with texture depths up to 2.0mm and when used as an alternative to ColourTex will produce material cost savings of 25% to 40%.

ADVANTAGES

Hitex Cycleway has several advantages over cold-applied systems

  • Suitable for new and old surfaces
  • Application is less susceptible to weather extremes
  • Better cost effectiveness
  • Can be laid all year round
  • Rapid curing, typically 15 to 30 minutes
  • Can repair and regulate existing surface defects such as potholes

COLOUR

Cycleway is available in 3 main colours; red, green and blue. All pigments are lead-free and designed to maintain their colour for the entire extended service life of the product.

BINDER

Hitex Cycleway Binder is a blend of modified rosin ester, process oil, thermoplastic rubber, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer and lead-free green pigment.

AGGREGATE

Cycleway uses 100% granite aggregate.

  • Minimum Polished Stone Value Green and
  • Blue Cycleway 60 (PSV)
  • Minimum Polished Stone Value Red Cycleway 55 (PSV)
  • Typical Aggregate Abrasion Value 1.4 (AAV)

PACKAGING

Cycleway is supplied in 25kg meltable polyethylene bags on 1.25 tonne pallets (50 bags per pallet). 1 tonne pallets are available by request (40 bags per pallet). All pallets are shrouded and stretch-wrapped for protection.

PREPARATION

Prior to application the surface must be sound and in good condition. It must also be clean, dry, and free from foreign matter such as de-icing salt. It is recommended that the surface be cleaned using Hot Compressed Air (HCA). Road marking can be covered, masked or removed prior to application according to the Engineer’s instruction.

APPLICATION

The bags should be loaded into a preheater/mixer fitted with temperature control. If the mixer requires a colour change it should be thoroughly clear before adding the fresh material. The material must be agitated to avoid aggregate and binder
separation. Allow the pigment to disperse thoroughly before application. After melting and mixing, the material should be laid at between 180˚c - 210˚c by screed shoe 200mm to 600mm wide. Spread rate will vary according to road surface but should be between 125m² and 140m² per tonne. Initial texture depth of the finished surface is typically 1.5mm with a minimum Skid Resistance Value of 60 (SRV) when measured with a pendulum tester.

AFTERCARE

Cycleway can be trafficked once it has cooled to 35˚c, typically 15 to 20 minutes after application. This period may need to be extended in very hot weather.
